Marathon Sound Transporter lets you make small, self-running sound installer programs for the game Marathon by Bungie Software. Why? Because it needs to be done. Every other aspect of Marathon (physics models, maps, shapes) is customizable via various programs. This program does the same for sounds. You will still need other software to create your custom sounds. But, now at least you can put together your own group of sounds and give them away for the easy enjoyment of others. No longer will you have to include excrutiating descriptions of how to use ResEdit to install 'snd ' resources. No more distributing a several megabyte sound file (and probably violating several copyright laws) which only includes a couple of cool new ones.
Great, but how the hell do I use it?
Simple. Just click on the Choose File button and select a file which contains the sound resources which you wish to distribute. The scrolling list will then magically be filled with a list of all the sounds in that file. If the resources have names, those will be displayed. Otherwise, the resource ID number will be shown. You should then select any sounds you wish to include by double-clicking on them. Selected sounds show up with black diamonds next to their names. The sounds that you select will show up in the installer just as they appear in your list, so it would probably be considerate of you to include some sort of description of the sounds in the resource names (hey, I didn't say you wouldn’t have to learn ResEdit).
Once you have selected all your sounds (and cleared the copyrights of course), click on the Make Installer button. You will first be prompted to enter some text which will appear in the installer describing your sounds to the user. Next, you must choose a location and name for the installer. Then, your’re done. You should check the installer just to make sure it looks like you want it to.
That was easy, but what’s the catch?
This program and any installers you create with it are freeware. The only restriction is that you may not charge anything for this program or the installers (online time charges excepted) without first getting the permission of the author. This can be done by sending email to:
